In a recent study of 6,177 Canadians, those whose diets were rich in beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin were up to 26 percent less likely to develop the most common form of kidney cancer. Other new research found that women with high levels of these plant chemicals had a lower risk of ovarian cancer; men were less likely to get lung cancer. Pumpkin and winter squash are a great source of these nutrients.
